The pc i used to play on(HP Pavilion p6510y) crapped out on me about 6 months ago or so. The reason for the malfunction i have found out was that the Hardrive had gotten fried in a way(the surge protector i used to have did not have a ground prong/plug so everytime the power went out during a storm or when i first got my kitty she decided to just hop on the pc and hit the power button while i was playing). I can start the pc up almost every time with no problem but within 30 minutes or so i would just end up getting a blue screen.
I know for a fact everything in the PC is ok but the harddrive because i have run PC diagnostics tests and pretty much every time everything else checked out but the Harddrive(said there was bad sectors or something). I was wondering if it is possible to get a spare harddrive, reformat it and copy everything on the damaged harddrive to the new one and use the spare harddrive as the main if this would fix the problem.
I was not able to start the pc until i had talked to someone ingame that told me the most likely problem with the pc due to what i had explained. So i figured i would put in the spare harddrive to help boot the pc as well and it turned out successful, but within 45 minutes or so of being on it i had attempted to play UO(everything was fine for about 15 minutes and then out of nowhere UO crashed, i exited tried restarting, joining the same server and as soon as i joined the server i had gotten the dreadful blue-screen).

Yes, it is possible and there are literally several ways to do this. The two ways I would recommend are: 1. Get a transfer device (i.e. external HD - USB 2.0/3.0) to move the data from the "bad" HD to a newly pre-formatted (no OS installed) external drive. Replace the "bad" drive with a new one, restore the OS and then transfer your data back onto the "new" HD. 2. Remove the "bad" HD, replace with a newly (OS installed) formatted drive, tether (connect) the "bad" HD using a universal data adapter and transfer your data. The one I recommend is the Apricorn DriveWire unit, found here: www.amazon.com/Apricorn-Drivewire-Universal-Adapter-2-5IN/dp/B000QY9KISEither way, you must change out the HD if it indeed has bad sectors on it.

Nope i've attempted getting a spare harddrive and installing new OS on it but it was still having problems. When i went to install the new OS it said that is was installing certain files and then it said it was ready to start windows, next thing i know after that it just went to a blue screen and it did these repeatedly after trying it, so i have no idea what else it might be. Don't really have the money right now to get it looked at so ima just leave it as is for now, i still have this pc but can't play block ops or anything new on it, for now all i can play on it is UO

If you want, I can send you an Enterprise version of Windows XP or Windows 7. Send me a PM with your address if you're interested. Also, indicate if the system has a DVD drive or not since the Windows 7 disk I believe is DVD format.

i think it maybe because the OS i tried to install was windows xp, the pc was originally windows 7, maybe that won't work? If you willing to send a win7 install cd i must ask, is it free of charge? if not i can't afford it lol.

i think i spoke too soon everything was working fine for a few hours then i played uo for a bit and when i went to disconnect from the server my pc froze up for no reason, i couldn't open up task manager so had no choice but to shut down the pc manually. After that i restarted and everything seemed fine at first then i hopped on vent and was gonna play some black ops zombies with loveless, i started up black ops and went to join the server LL hosted and then boom... pc crashed weird thing each time these happened i did not get bluescreens on either of them. I guess it is more than just the harddrive that was the problem but that was one of the big problems because things worked better after i installed the new OS.
