Building a pc

I am interested in building a pc(no more buying store bought already assembled pc's). For the most part i already selected all the components i want for my build. Any suggestions or feedback would be much appreciated.

Extra(wonder if i should bother getting or not):

Heatsink Grease - XIGMATEK PTI-G4512 thermal grease with gold grade thermal matrix filler particles - (I guess this is a higher quality version of coolant than the normal coolant creams for CPU heatsinks. Willing to get the best quality cream i can to protect an expensive pc component.)

Before selecting each of these components i read through at least 20+ reviews or more of each thing and made sure that everything is compatible with everything else unless i might have overlooked something but i doubt it.

Overall the price is pretty decent(around $1,415). I won't be building it for at least a month or more until i finalize exactly what i want.

I haven't decided to get a new keyboard/mouse right now because i'm comfortable with the cheap stuff i got right now.


What ya'll think? Anything you think i should change?

One thing i have noticed about most of the motherboards i viewed is that they have a 8 pin plug for the cpu power but i could not find a power supply that really explained what # pin they had for cpu power.

Aslo, I would consider adding a couple of healthy gerbils to help with the work load. Make sure they have robust wheels to run on.

Asus and Corsair are my preferred choices. That's about all I can say. My system only cost $500 to build, bought everything on Newegg.

I already got the Case and PSU(made slight change from 750w to 850w) last week and hopefully, this friday will be ordering the CPU(slight change going with the i7 2700k 3.5ghz), MB, memory and aftermarket heatsink fan along with the cooling compound.

As for the GPU, i've been reconsidering it as well. I was originally gonna go with 2 GTX 560's and found a better single card that operates better than 2 of those on SLI. Price is same for 1 GTX 680 as is for 2 of the 560's so it evens out.

Or you could just do like I do and go out every 3 years and buy a new laptop ;D

So $500 every 3 years for, oh say 30 years, thats 5K. PLUS you'll have a neat collection of laptops by the time its over.

I'm glad you made the change Tia. You definitely want a PSU over 800 Watts. I have a Thermaltake Black Widow TR2 RX (850watt) and that things rocks!
If you're on Newegg, why aren't you taking advantage of their bundles? Also, check out Amazon.

If u don't already know, if u want to convert yr brand new PC to HTPC (home theater PC) of some sort, do install the XMBC software at xbmc.org/. Cool stuff.
